Short-lived accessory for GPS systems

These batteries died within a few weeks of purchase. They have a long lifespan, but after a 3.5 hour hike there was only 25% left of a full charge. In comparison, I started using non-rechargeable lithium batteries and after more than 8 hours of hiking, the GPS shows the lithium batteries at full capacity. I don't trust these Garmin batteries with my sat nav.

Pros
  • Stylish and modern design
Cons
  • Fits

Doesn't hold a charge

Purchased in April for my Garmin 64. Thought it was a reasonable price for a dedicated rechargeable battery. This summer I've used it many times on a boat for speed and water depth. When using it, I noticed that the display was sometimes dark. I charged (even overnight!) when we got home. The display went from bright to dark within 10 minutes of use. Not impressed. should have stopped at alkaline.

Does not fit GPSMap 62s

I may be missing something entirely, but I have no idea how anyone uses them with GPSMap 62s. I got that, but the GPSMap has a comb that goes between the batteries and prevents this pack from fitting in the battery compartment. Batteries can make contact but I can't close the back cover. I'll be sending them back but I'm more curious as to how someone wrote that they worked great in the '62s when I can't even fit them. Maybe they cut off the plastic?

Pros
  • Free for educational purposes
Cons
  • Ease of maintenance

Worked for some time (actually I don't use GPS very often) but now it doesn't charge at all; only shows the "connected" icon and never the "loading" icon. The battery never actually charges. A pair of Revain Basics AA rechargeable batteries and a charger would have been much better. Agree with others - Garmin is overpriced and underperforming. They don't deserve the reputation of being leaders in the GPS business.

Save your money - this trick lets you use regular AA batteries

You can save a lot of money by using regular (cheap) AA NiMH batteries. The device normally refuses to charge them, but you can trick the Garmin Oregon 600 into thinking you have a Garmin custom battery by placing a small piece of plastic under the batteries in the battery compartment. There is a small black rubber button in the middle of the battery compartment. If you put a thin piece of plastic on that button and then put batteries on top of it, they'll hold the piece of plastic in place and

Two defective devices in a row?

I got them a few weeks ago and took them on a weekend hike for an overnight fee. The device showed 1 of 4 remaining stripes after about 4 hours. I charged it overnight and the next morning the device showed 2 out of 4 bars. Thinking it was just a misconfiguration I posted on the Garmin forums. Within a few hours I received a response telling me to post in the wrong forum and suggesting I should submit a support ticket or try the German forum (pointless as I don't speak German - why isn't there…

  • Hands free

  • Very expensive

Don't risk your life!

I agree with other reviews that these batteries do not last. They may work well when you first buy them, but they won't charge after a little use. This wouldn't be critical if the device was, say, a small flashlight, but it isn't, THIS IS GPS AND YOUR LIFE MAY DEPEND ON IT. I recommend using batteries when you first buy them and then discarding them at the first sign of trouble. By the way, the battery pack is easy to disassemble and reuse the plastic bracket. Peel off the outer covering of the

Fake in every way

Garmin makes good GPS navigators but with one serious drawback: batteries and performance in general. Don't try to keep a travel journal, it might not bother you too much. Battery life is decent, but if you use GPS as much as I do, you'll be using a lot. no gaps where the GPS is dead and you don't notice for an hour) you will be very disappointed in Garmin. And this battery is just rubbing salt in the wound. First, most (if not all) modern Garmin GPS navigators turn off automatically when you…
