I've been looking for an update for this kettle for a long time. I bought an umbra colored model from a local store for fun a few years ago. In general, the kettle is good, durable, but some functions are not very good. After seeing almost every teapot review here, I decided to count my blessings and keep this trusty teapot. He lasted two years and I didn't have to babysit him. I usually leave water in it overnight. I let it simmer longer than intended. It has withstood my many trials. :) Pros: - It hasn't rusted, the enamel coating hasn't flaked off, the handle hasn't melted, the chamber hasn't warped, the cap works perfectly. Given the many poor reviews of other kettles, this is a huge win. - Bulky for my many tea-loving guests. - Lightweight, heats up quickly. But durable, hasn't warped. Cons: - When the kettle heats up, the handle and spout give off a plastic smell. I don't hate it, I just don't want plastic getting into my drinks. It just appears to be smoke from hot steam. I poured water and tried to smell it, it didn't affect the water. I can live with that because it's a strong teapot. Casting can be a problem until you learn your quirks. It can be tedious to squeeze the handle to open the spout and twist your hand to pour; The solution is to grab the handle with one hand and open the lid with the other. The fill cap is tight and requires a combination of strength and finesse to operate. But it works. Important Pouring Tips: I've heard complaints about spills and the risk of steam burns. Always wait for the rapid boil to slow down before pouring or opening so you don't burn yourself from the burst of steam (this should be common sense; it's a lesson you only need to learn once). Pouring with this kettle requires a little patience and a special technique. The spout is high on the chamber, so you have to tilt the kettle at a steep angle to pour, and it's easy to pour out too much water. just take it slow Even if you do it slowly, the spout cap gets in the way and splatters, which can make a mess; The solution is to put the spout in and pour the lid over the rim of the cup without splashing; Again, don't water aggressively, be patient. If you follow these tips, getting this kettle up and running will be easy. The negligible learning curve is a small price to pay for a strong and durable kettle.
