Problem Baby BluRay Player

I started returning this item because it didn't work at first and I can still return it. They warn the buyer that it may take some time to start up, but it took me over 5 minutes before I decided it was a defect and that the included HDMI cable worked much better than it did. I gave him another chance. More than a week later, after trying to balance work and social obligations, and lo and behold, he tuned in. The seller warns the buyer to turn off "QuickPlay" in the settings, but as far as I can tell that was already the default setting. It plays my Blu-rays and DVDs very well. However, it *could* not play "backup" features on a single DVD until now. It's advertised as playing both mkv and avi files, but as far as I can tell, it doesn't. If the supplied instructions say that it can only play such files with all sorts of restrictions and exceptions (encrypted names with initials and abbreviations), then it simply cannot play such files. You don't have to be a computer expert to connect your BluRay player and watch your video files. Finally, for some reason, when you turn on the BluRay player, the TV immediately turns on. This isn't a problem, and it's not uncommon for an HDMI cable, but for some reason it defaults to the TV's Channel 4 setting, making it impossible for me to see the "Sources" options screen for others Player, computer, etc. Then I have to switch something on and do a bit of gymnastics on my remote control to bring it back to channel 3. I'll try to remember to do this gymnastics as soon as I turn off the BluRay player in the future so I'm not surprised later. In short, I'm a little dissatisfied and would like to buy a Samsung instead. But it seems to me that now there is too much trouble to do anything else.

Pros
  • Handsfree
Cons
  • Very Expensive
