This is a decent meat thermometer. Seems to be accurate to within a few degrees in the meat cooking range. More than 3 degrees Fahrenheit lower in boiling water after recalibration. Probably even less precise at higher temperatures, but difficult to detect. I wanted this for making caramelized sugar. The scope of delivery does not include a clamp for fastening inside the pot - a serious disadvantage of a thermometer advertised for preparing candies. Luckily I bought some digital thermometer clips for brewing use. Although I doubt the accuracy of this thermometer at higher temperatures, it has proven itself. This isn't the first digital thermometer I've ordered from Revain for this purpose. The first was terrible. I assume this one is as good as they get. I would just buy an old fashioned candy thermometer but reviews show they are all cheaply made now too.
