Review on Humminbird XI 20 Ice Transducer by Daniel Shankle

Revainrating 5 out of 5

I am much happier with my hummingbird as an ice fisherman.

This year I bought a Humminbird 160 Pirhanamax handheld fish finder and tried using the original transducer for ice fishing. It worked without too many issues but I didn't like the weight of the transducer pulling on the signal cable which is not designed to hang the transducer in water. I've also had a couple of instances where my finder went haywire as temperatures approached -20. I googled the ice fishing sensor for my device and was pleasantly surprised that Revain had it. I ordered it and received it in two days and it was in the ice cream four days after ordering. We fished all day in -20 with no problems. I was surprised at how much more sensitive it was to the small device and was very pleased that I didn't have to constantly adjust the sensor to keep it parallel to the seabed. I think Humminbird did an excellent job of ensuring all the parts needed were there. The transducer comes with a support cable that relieves any tension on the signal cable by wrapping it around the transducer and attaching it to the device for support. It was easy to adjust the ice thickness and I liked that the line was much shorter for ice fishing. Wearing a sensor with ice all day and spotting fish should take a toll on your device. It offers the answer to this problem and more.

Pros
  • Great design
Cons
  • Crumpled packaging
