Drains batteries at night

I use this to keep my dual batteries in my diesel fully charged. I attached a 60 watt panel to the topper. This drains the batteries at night. Even if the lower threshold is set to 12.6. The sun has been down for 3 hours now and has drawn 5 volts. In the morning after sunrise I see 9/11 and 1/12 depending on how early I get there. I have a maximum of 13V. I tried with a diode, then it will not charge. I'll turn on the solid state relay to stop it. You'd think it could have been designed a little better for the price. Defeat your target.
