Same thing happened to me - I have a Dell 8400 with XPPro SP2 and a Maxtor external USB hard drive - I have all of them six uses USB ports that came with the Dell unit but when I added the Belkin F5U237 hub everything worked fine until I rebooted it - then nothing but sadness! I replaced the hub hoping it was defective as I really liked the top two pluggable ports - same thing happened with the replacement - after some experimentation I removed all USB connections from my computer (e.g. MS Ofc- keyboard, external hard drive Maxtor USB). , camcorder, laser PRN, Inteli mouse, Linksys wireless USB adapter) and just hooked up a Belkin F5U237 hub to a Dell computer - guess what? This worked as advertised but now I have 5 USB ports that I can't use so the only thing I got was the convenience of the top loading ports for my two 1GB scan cruisers.
