I keep a few gadgets in my kitchen so I can open jars and lids despite my weak arthritic hands. A lot of these gadgets just don't work for me because they still require hand strength, but this one works for me. You slide towards the lid opener until it is flush with the lid and follow the direction of the arrow on the top of the device while twisting to open the lid. You will need to apply some pressure to the lid as you rotate the device so the silicone grip will hold the lid. Flat-sided lids are easier than domed lids because they have more surface area, but either will work. The little device at the top for lifting the petals isn't very effective, so I use a different tool for that. The green silicone circle is primarily useful for gripping slippery lids, but can also be useful for opening new lids for those with stronger hands. Of course, it also works as a hot stand.
