I have a 2004 road bike with Dura Ace 7800 series components. Derailleur because the cables don't have sharp turns ride under the handlebar tape. When properly adjusted, shifting is very smooth. I recently replaced the chain and cassette when installing a new rear wheel. I just couldn't get the bike to shift smoothly in all gears no matter how many times I tried. I started from scratch and watched a few videos to make sure I didn't forget anything. Although the bike never fell, the derailleur cage didn't look me in the eye. After purchasing this tool, it was clearly not there. The problem was solved in ten minutes. The main thing about the tool itself is that there is no play between the rod/screw that enters the switch bracket and the body of the tool itself. Any play can lead to inaccurate measurements. This tool has very little and the square main tube is more than stiff enough to get the derailleur hanger back into shape. Watch the video or read the instructions - it's very easy to use. Remember that hangers can break, so use as little force as possible.
