I received this item today. Tested on about a dozen outlets and switches that I know are hot. It worked every time. Would I trust my life to just this device? Of course not. Before touching any wires that might be hot, even after using this device, I smack them with some metal with an insulated handle just in case, or apply a meter if I had the time. But so far this inexpensive tester has worked flawlessly.
