This Samsung S80A would have received 5 stars were it not for two very annoying issues when using this monitor with a Mac.1. When your Mac goes into sleep mode, S80A turns off power and data transfer to Mac. For some reason it decides to check EVERY 5 MINUTES if the input is connected. In doing so, it understands that your Mac is connected (in my case via USB-C with 90W Power Delivery and as a display input). It then momentarily starts loading your Mac, then the monitor says no input was detected, then quickly turns off again and stops loading my Mac. The problem is that it doesn't just make my Mac keep playing the "power bell" (the sound it makes when it starts to load). Not only is this annoying, it shouldn't be happening at all.2. When multiple inputs are in use (e.g.: PC over HDMI, Mac over USB-C) and the Mac is asleep and you wake the Mac while using a different input, the S80A sometimes incorrectly tells the Mac what resolutions are supported and it is displayed at a weird resolution and frequency of 30Hz without HDR. I thought these issues might be due to the bad USB-C cable that came with the S80A, but NO, this issue still occurs even with the $50 Thunderbolt 4 cable! I even contacted Samsung directly to see if there was any updated software, but there wasn't. Samsung also suggested DISABLE sleep mode. Hi? Sleep mode is a standard feature on almost every laptop or desktop. They don't design a monitor that can't work with a sleeping Mac or PC. FWIW, this monitor worked fine with Windows 11 (although I never put my computer to sleep). like I did with my MacBook so take it with a big heap of salt) but HDR on Windows sucks so I turned it off. I also liked the fact that this monitor offers 90W USB-C power delivery, but that's pointless if it can't work with a sleeping Mac. The anti-glare screen is good. The processing quality is pleasant. The ability to lower and raise the monitor on the stand is good. But as I said in the beginning both of these issues ruined the experience with this monitor for me as a Mac user and unfortunately I have to return it and spend almost double the price on another 4K monitor (Dell U2723QE; old 24" 1080p Monitor was Dell and had no problems) will have pretty much the same features but with some extra features that the S80A doesn't have Hopefully this new monitor can handle a sleeping Mac and a couple of inputs connected πWARNING don't skimp on a 4K monitor, just spend more and save yourself the hassle.
