USB-A connectors have been around for a long time, with the first standard appearing 20 years before the start of the new millennium. USB-C is new in this box, bringing faster data transfer, much more power delivery, and the ultimate "one-cable” connection to everything you could need. But right now we're in a transitional world between the two - you probably have a lot of peripherals and devices that only connect to the USB-A port, like thumb drives, printers, etc., but now you can find them over USB -C connectors only on your laptops/tablets/phones - so what to do? Enter adapters like these — they essentially fit the end of any USB-A cable and convert it to a male USB-C to work with the USB-C ports on your new devices. - Problem solved! Note that this means that not every peripheral will work with every USB-C device; your phone/tablet/etc. still needs to know how to communicate with the peripheral (have the right drivers) so that the old printer/scanner no longer works with a modern iPad Pro, for example. But where a driver is available, now you can connect those old devices! It is of good quality construction with an aluminum body and nylon/braid cable cover. It should withstand a lot of use.
