I have owned this headphone model for over 15 years. There were both new parties and old ones. I listened, compared with 770s, with 880s, with AKG, Sony, 800 Senh. Regarding reliability: in the old batches (I do not take into account the period with a plastic headband) there was a double wire and a slider (slider repair assy) made of strong plastic. Now - a round wire and a weak slider - which cracks when the headphones are taken by one ear. The cost of a new element is about 2 thousand. In old batches, soft foam rubber ear pads. In new ones, it depends on the batch - there are good ones that last a long time, there are bad ones (100% original) that fall apart after the second wash. Regarding the speakers - did not reveal strong differences in the old and new ones. Absolutely identical. Now for the sound - a very strong influence on the sound has: a) warming up, b) ear pads. On warm headphones with sagging ear pads, the best impression is excellent bass, excellent mids. On high, a little bust, but this is a very small minus. In general, they sound good - the scene is voluminous in the open version of the 990s, but it has a little more bass. How the ear pads affect the sound is VERY strong. So much so that the T1 version comes with 2 options - a little softer and a little denser. When the ear pads are new, they are tighter and less leaky from the outside. I hear a huge bias towards highs, an almost complete absence of bass, the volume has to be turned up. After listening like that, I would rate 2 and watch something else. When the ear pads withstood several washes and sagged quite a lot. the sound changes dramatically - the volume in comparison with the new ones has to be reduced by 5-6 dB, bass and a wide stage appear. The sound outside gets a little louder. It looks like the columns - close or open the phase inverter hole. Try to completely remove the ear pads and listen without them, you will hear a strong difference, and then attach them without putting them on and it will become clear what I'm talking about. In general, the headphones are excellent with good, comfortable sound.
