When I first started woodworking in 1970 I bought one of these rulers. My young son, now 40, broke it within a few weeks. For many years I have preferred to use roller measuring tapes. Both the ruler and the tapes have their pros/cons. I generally like retractable straps. But they are harder to read for small measurements. And then they always want to "jump back" by either pinching their fingers or possibly damaging the measurement object. This rule doesn't work well for this, but it doesn't work very well for "internal" measurements. So, I think everyone has a goal. Many years ago, one of the problems with these folding rules was that they "wear out". That is, after repeated folding in separate sections was "sucks". I don't know how much this affected accurate measurement in general. Probably not that much. But usually you don't want the measurements to "suck". So far this line has served me well. The bands have a "sliding" hook that is adjustable for both inside and outside measurements. This line does not exist. Therefore, for small measurements, this ruler may be better, more accurate and easier to use.
