Buying something like this in the mail seems arbitrary. Judging by the internal elements, it's clearly fragile. Mine has been running since I got it. I've treated mine a little rougher than the manufacturer recommended and it still works. I tested it with my transitional goggles and it emits UV. It's getting a little temperamental so I don't expect it to last much longer but so far so good. Hopefully someone will find a more robust way to generate UVA and UVB soon. What we really need is a lamp with the same spectrum as the midday sun. Vitamin D is just one of many molecules produced in your skin when you are outdoors. It's funny, we know lizards need ultraviolet light, but we lock people up in office buildings with nasty neon lights and then wonder why they get sick and depressed. A year has passed. I only use it in the evening for about 20 minutes and only in winter. The lamp heats up in a few minutes. So far, so good.
