I'm sure it can be used for other purposes but I mainly use it to light cigars using the toasting method. A big plus besides the fact that it works very well is that it has a built in kick at the bottom! I usually cut my cigars, but this comes in handy in case something happens to your cutter or you forget. It's far better to light a cigar with a butane torch than with a lighter that uses some type of lighter fluid. Lighter fluid tastes like your stick, but butane doesn't. However, I had to remove the star. It has trouble lighting or burning when it gets cold. I usually solve this problem by either holding it in my hand for a while or just leaving it in my pocket. But in the colder months of the year, like autumn evenings, if I leave it outside on a table it will be difficult to shine and glow. It's also fickle when it gets cold; Because sometimes it doesn't light up, sometimes it will light up and then go out after a few seconds of use. It's easily overcome with the methods outlined, but it's still a real pain when you start toasting a cigar and it goes out and doesn't light until you warm it up. Otherwise, just keep it in your bag when not in use and it will never be a problem. I also see that there is some confusion about how to refuel a lighter. Here are some instructions on how to do this. To fill it out, proceed as follows.1. First, I recommend waiting until it's almost empty. Check it on the side window.2. Below is an adjustment. Turn it all the way down, toward the minus sign.3. Using a small tool, press down on the nozzle that will be used to fill the lighter (I use a small flat head screwdriver). This reduces the internal pressure in the container. Any liquid left inside will dissolve and get cold during this process, so be careful. That's why I recommend waiting until it's empty. *A NOTICE. If you're having trouble getting liquid into your lighter, it's almost certainly because there's still pressure inside. You must do this to be able to add liquid.4. Once the pressure is gone, you can fill the lighter by placing the fill canister nozzle over the filler neck and squeezing. To do this, hold the lighter upside down. I also suggest holding it with the fill box facing you so you can see when it's full to prevent overflowing.
