This rug has the strongest smell of any fabric I have ever bought! If you are sensitive to environmental toxins, beware! I noticed there were some reviews saying this but they were conflicting so I took a chance. The rug covered my little covered porch with all the windows open, so we quickly took it outside and hung it over the fence for 5 DAYS! The smell stayed but lessened. After getting it inside, I poured 4 cases of baking soda onto the 8x10 foot rug and let it sit for 24 hours before vacuuming. Then I lightly dusted the baking soda with essential oils for 2 days in a row. Since it's summer and I air a lot, that worked. I would never try this in the winter when the house is closed. The carpet was brought from Egypt. The work that was required to make carpets safe is not for everyone. I wouldn't do it again. I'm finally rid of the smell and I'm enjoying a very nice carpet. At birth he had terrible wrinkles, which smoothed out nicely within a few days. The pile is dense but soft on the feet and looks like it will wear well. Someone mentioned that the colors change depending on how it's placed in the room and I found that to be true due to the brushed finish. First, the color is deeper. Aside from the noxious fumes, this rug is great style for your money and you should get your fill of wear and tear. It was impossible for me to ignore the smell.
