Warning first. Fisters has neither machines nor spare parts. They just walk through you, take your money and tell a real Chinese manufacturer to send you a car. If your car has arrived and items are missing, there's little hope of ever getting them from the Fisters. I'm still waiting for 10 spare needles, spare spools, a threaded rod and a nut. If I ever get them I will update this review. The Fisters suspect customer service isn't a reflection of the machine itself. That's cool. Choose your retailer carefully and enjoy a wonderful piece of technology from 1900 that still works great in 2018. After reading some of the negative reviews I was a bit worried. The positive reviews have changed my mind. Turns out, plug and play people got negative reviews. The positive reviews were written by people with certain mechanical abilities who understood that with just a little thought and effort, these simple machines could be brought to life. Mine arrived well packaged in a hard foam box. It was well oiled to survive the journey from China. I took it outside and unpacked it completely. Then I used a can of aerosol brake cleaner. This completely removed all of the oil. Let dry. You then need to mount the large steel drive wheel with the nut provided. Stand was not used as it is weak and uncomfortable for our average sized person. It looks like it's intended for a smaller person sitting on a short stool. A few scraps of wood and drywall screws provided a sturdy base for the table top installation. After watching a few videos on Utube it was easy to thread both the bobbin and needle and make small adjustments. I made a threaded rod out of an 8" piece of thin iron wire. I lubricated the indicated lubrication points with oil and checked for function and bobbin thread lift. If you have trouble removing the spool, just use a small magnet to pull it out. Works great Thread count 69 works great in the needle and bobbin. If you buy the machine "as is" and even slightly mechanical, this machine is very easy to clean and operate. Just turn it so that the small rubber wheel rubs against the large drive wheel. Put on the coil. A small black rubber "tire" is pressed against the rim of a large steel drive wheel. The friction between them turns the spool as you turn the drive wheel. If the spool does not become rough, sand the surface of the "hoop" with medium grit sandpaper. Degrease and lightly sand the drive wheel rim. You're trying to increase friction. Then the spool spins very quickly. wind away. Works perfectly. If your glass is always half empty, don't buy this machine. Buy it for people who think their glass is half full. It's easy to set up, sews almost anything that fits under its presser foot, and is shaped like a tank. And no main camp. Mine must be an updated device or a different manufacturer. The main drive shaft runs through a good set of ball bearings. As far as I know these machines are made in several factories in China. Mostly copies of the 120 year old Singer 29-4. Mine is green and labeled "HUANGLONG Sewing Machine". Perhaps other machines of lower quality than this one have received. Just a joy to use. Ps Used Singer 29-4s range from $500 to $1000. Collectibles March 10, 2018 I just couldn't wind 150 threads of waxed leather on this machine, even on 25 gauge needles. 138 knit nylon and a 20-22 needle seems like the largest thread this machine can handle. It's still a very heavy, strong thread. I also use it for leather projects. On the next stitch of this machine, 7 per inch, it works pretty well on the skin.
