Review on πŸ”§ SS-02 Solder Sucker Desoldering Pump by ENGINEER by Gavin Ghram

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Works great but can clog

The tool works! It feels solid and is great for casual use. The compact size takes a little getting used to, but once you get the hang of it, you're good to go. I have used it to clean various holes from standard 0.1 inch holes, 0.2mm pitch holes and through holes for Type A USB connector. The silicone tip seems to help create a good seal and clean out holes. Two problems found: 1) The solder gets stuck in the silicone tube. To do this, you have to remove it, clean it with tweezers and put it back. That's why I said it's only good for occasional use. I think if the silicone tube was specially shaped to match the diameter of the tip this would be less of a problem, but the silicone tube fits over the tip of the solder suction cup and creates an edge/ledge for solder to pool and get stuck. 2) This is because the plunger does not penetrate the silicone tube when squeezing a piece of solder out, so material cannot be pushed out of that area. I also had a stuck plunger and had to disassemble the device to clean it. Overall I think this is a great tool to have on your workbench, but if you're constantly refining and not working the solder sucker then there will be some downsides. If you mainly do surface mount and only need to clean the through hole every once in a while, this is a very good product. In the review I was asked to rate the ease of use. I gave this 3 stars because of the above issues and also because the case is too compact which makes it a bit difficult to handle. He also asked me to rate "transparency". Since I have no idea what they are asking of me I gave 0 stars.
