Review on Protection Li Ion Lithium Battery Balance Tools & Equipment by Ken Ayo

Revainrating 5 out of 5

Good bms for DIY battery packs

Used this board to build a 5S2P for my impact wrench that originally came with Ni-Cd. Popped this into a 10 x 18650 and got a new 4Ah Li-Ion battery which will not disappoint if you need it for an 18v impact wrench. The board comes with small metal pads designed for spot welding. If you try to solder, you're going to have a hard time. The battery and nickel on these landing pylons were quickly joined by spot welding. But the output/charging needs to be soldered. My driver takes about 10A peak and 1-3A depending on the load. The peak is instantaneous to turn a bolt into a 2x4 so the spike lasts about 3 seconds. This board has no problem with that. No overheating issues were identified. Says it can balance but I haven't tested the effectiveness of this. For the price this is a good deal and depending on the project it can handle loads up to 5 amps. It says 15A but from the looks of it I don't think it can handle 300W (at 20V) imo. I don't have an oscilloscope for further testing, but I won't use it for accurate currents just because of its wide tolerances, which are mentioned in the product info.

Pros
  • PROTECTION AND SAFETY --- The protection board protects the battery pack from over-charge, over-discharge, over-current and short circuit, and the protection board is the heart of the battery pack to prevent the battery from explosion, fire and damage
Cons
  • tape
