Review on Power Steering 1996 2003 Cherokee Wrangler by Matt Tito

Revainrating 2 out of 5

The canister will not fit the '98 5.2L Grand Cherokee.

Luckily my original container is still fine. The pump, once installed, works great and my old pump can do day and night. But it wasn't worth the pain in the A$$ factor. First of all, where the 3 mounting screws go through the pump, there is a thread that was not present on the stock pump. I had to drill out the thread. Second, once I tightened everything up, I found that the return fitting on the tank was in the wrong place! It is located behind the pump next to the distributor. The return line is too short and, more importantly, will touch the manifold and most likely melt it. Also, the clamps that attach the expansion tank to the pump are not exactly the same as the original and it was too much trouble to install the original tank on the stock pump. I wish I had just gone to NAPA or the Autozone. Not worth bothering with modifications.

Pros
  • Placement on vehicle: Front
Cons
  • Almost never
