Simple! It costs money to finally seal my 1976 CJ7 304 with Headman Fender exhaust manifolds. I've tried two or three shims with the right amount of torque after a few heat cycles in the past. They end up blowing up all my center ports on both sides, the new headers too. (cheap though) Installed them in about 30 minutes with no prep at all as my old gaskets came off so well - no leaks first time as far as I can remember. Let's see if they get kicked out in the end, time will tell. I'm sure you've already done this, but tighten from the center and move outward, tightening to the manufacturer's specifications, highlighted in RED on your custom shim kit. They are much thicker than traditional shims to accommodate SOFT warping/mismatch. For the price it's worth it. try, I'm glad I did.
