The PH-80 Hydro Tester I received was probably defective on arrival. Instead of displaying a number as instructed in the instructions, this counter displayed an error message. I thought maybe the direction is wrong. The meter seemed to give me an accurate PH reading, but I noticed an unexpected drop. The company claims it's calibrated to 7.0, but when I used the included 7.0 solution, the level dropped significantly from 7.9 to 7.4. I need to maintain a pH of 7.5 in my well water for my iron filter to properly remove iron and prevent rust. Since then, my meter has failed to calibrate, gives completely different readings when retesting the same water sample on the same occasion, and can't even give reliable results when retesting distilled water. The calibration will not survive. And now I keep getting the triangle error message you see in the attached video that says the sensor is damaged. I contacted HM Digital and exchanged emails with Adrain, the supervisor, who threw out a triangle error message saying it should protect itself from interference from an external signal. I used this counter in the same place for a month and never got this message. I'm 71 years old and I recognize "spin" when I hear it. Adrian ignored questions about the "---" error message and refused to believe any problems I told him about. He asked for a video and I sent him 2 short ones - my iPhone and email won't let me send more. He just says he doesn't see anything wrong with it. I asked him directly twice if HM would honor his guarantee but received no friendly reply. I don't really need $50 - maybe I do. This company finds out in about 5 minutes that there is another negative review. There is another consumer who wrote with the same problems. However, maybe your device will work properly if it is defective like mine. I hope you don't have the same experience as me when it comes to getting HM to do what they say and guarantee the item. Things have changed - businesses no longer need to scare or mislead consumers. Things like Yelp and these reviews strengthen our voice.
