These devices are refurbished, whatever that means. To me that means they don't work more than half the time. Absolutely rubbish and optimum won't let you sell new units if you need their phone service. So, either you rent one of them for $10 a month, which adds up quickly, or you buy one for $70 or so, take your chances. I've passed 4 now and they lose signal every day. I have to turn it off, unscrew the very complicated and painful coaxial cable and press the reset button. EVERY DAY. I returned 3, looks like there will be 4 and we have to stop phone service so we can buy a new modem. We will lose the fax functionality of our expensive all-in-one printer. It should not only be a choice, but also with the optimum. Unfortunately, Verizon is even worse. We ditched the cord and got the Roku, which we really like but, you guessed it, requires a streaming MODEM. It's not Sophie's choice, but it sucks, just like those modems. Don't buy them. Nothing but trouble.
