Terrible Thermometer

This is a terrible instant read thermometer. I already have an analog dial thermometer with instant Taylor reading (Taylor Model #5989). This model works fantastically fast, but not this one. The reason I ordered the Taylor Super Large Dial Instant Read Antimicrobial Thermometer (Taylor Model #8018) is the very large dial. I've reached the age where I need reading glasses :) . and it's very inconvenient to need glasses every time I want to do a quick check with my little instant-read thermometer. So I figured I'd solve the problem by getting a larger dial for the same type of thermometer. Not right! Here are the problems with this product: - First, it's not "instant". In comparison, my other smaller Taylor takes 8 seconds to tell me the water is heating to 160 degrees. Taylor's extra large dial took 55 (!) seconds to tell me the same thing! - Apart from being SLOW, it is misleading because the temperature rises very quickly at first. In my example above, it rose very quickly to around 120 degrees, but then *extremely* slowly crept up the next 40 degrees to reach the 160 degree mark. It's moving so slowly that if you're not careful you might assume it's finished after the first zoom and not notice it's still crawling. and of course you get a completely wrong and too low temperature. The writing is still small, so if you use reading glasses like me, you'll still need them. Worse, the design around the edges is odd - the metal strip and the curvature of the glass around the edge make it difficult to see the edge temperature readings. If you look closely at the Revain product image above, you'll see what I mean by the dial. In any case, this product deserves 0 stars. Get "Taylor Analog Instant-Read Dial Thermometer" (Taylor Model #5989), it works. excellent in my experience.
