Everything is good about this instant read thermometer except the lens on the dial, it's plastic and will melt. Why companies are choosing plastic over glass continues to worry me, especially when the parts are most likely to be exposed to heat. Some of us like to use thermometers on the grill or skewer and in very hot ovens. The last thing we want to worry about is determining how long the lens will withstand transient heat when measuring temperature.

This is a terrible instant read thermometer. I already have an analog dial thermometer with instant Taylor reading (Taylor Model #5989). This model works fantastically fast, but not this one. The reason I ordered the Taylor Super Large Dial Instant Read Antimicrobial Thermometer (Taylor Model #8018) is the very large dial.
