I've thought long and hard about paying the extra $700 for the VR version of this lens because I shoot a lot indoors . pictures and I try not to use flash. So far my approach with this lens has been to increase the ISO enough to shoot at 1/100 or 1/125. This has given me reliably sharp photos about 90% of the time. And when they're spicy, they're super spicy. Maybe one day I will sell this lens and buy another one with VR and slightly faster focus, but for now it's the right lens at the right price and I have no complaints. I recently took about 2,000 photos with it during a six day series of conferences and exhibitions. I've used it in different lighting conditions and have been more than happy with the results. If price weren't an issue, would I choose this lens? no But for me money is everything and I am absolutely confident that this lens can reliably produce images as good as any more expensive 70-200 f/ lens at least 90% of the time.
