Great for the beach
We let our toy poodle walk along the water's edge with a leash behind her for safety. Your old line picked up water and became heavy (it was a braided line). It is a type of rubber and does not absorb water. I'm not sure how firm it will be or how chewable it will be for a larger dog. Our little Zoe just wants to run and doesn't want to be on a leash.
