So the $200 investment in this diagnostic tool paid off immediately. Our 2016 Audi Q3 had an intermittent check engine light which was cheaper but I found it very competent, the diagnostic tools would clear the underlying problem but wouldn't tell me. I was thrilled to run the MD806 and at the start of the full diagnostics I ran with it, it told me the problem was related to the "08213 Passive/Intermittent" intake manifold position sensor/switch. A little reading on the internet told me it was the $50 piece. I'm guessing our Audi dealer or whichever European shop I took the car from also with this problem would have cost me a lot more than $250 (my tools and parts price) just to tell me what to fix . 500 dollars. ran it on my '03 corvette which runs fine if not perfect and the unit told me i had intermittent misfires on cylinder 8 and code C1214, solenoid valve relay problem, "contact circuit open". This requires some investigation, but again, my other diagnostic tools haven't reported this issue. The experience with the MD806 out of the box is top notch. A well-written and comprehensive user's guide that is surprisingly well-organized, written, and thorough. I particularly like the quick start guide, which is a one-page sheet with a QR code that tells you about the website, creates a login, and runs any software updates the device might need. It's a quick and easy process, but you'll need an SD card reader for your computer to connect and update. To understand that I intend to continue reading about this technology so that I can take full advantage of all the information that the MD806 offers. View all information from the device by connecting it to a computer with the supplied USB cable. It comes in a sturdy plastic travel box that includes an OBD/II cable and I found the cable that came with it to be long enough to get the job done which was a pleasant surprise. The button layout and general controls are fairly intuitive for anyone with an electronics background, so as long as you can use your phone and TV remote you should be fine. Criticism - I had a small problem logging in. installed on their website, I created a login when I first received the device and stupidly didn't write down the password. I have requested a password reset multiple times and never received the promised password reset. Finally after a day of waiting it worked and everything was fine. Not sure if it was my fault or hers but - save your password! Otherwise, I highly recommend it because it immediately saved me $300 or more on top of the cost. It was designed to work with a wide range of vehicles and to be honest I've enjoyed exploring and learning about my vehicles through interacting with the device. I still have a long way to go to take full advantage of it, but it tells me how good an investment it is.
