This was my first camcorder and I'm returning it because I was shocked to discover that the autofocus mechanism ensures that the audible sound is picked up by the camcorder's built-in microphone. From what I later read online. , Internal noise of the auto focus and/or zoom mechanism can be a common problem with camcorders. However, introducing unwanted noise into videos is a big problem for my shooting needs (hence only 2 stars, specific to my situation). Noise is always present unless you zoom in. To solve this problem, you cannot add an external microphone to this camcorder. So you either have to A) live with autofocus noise (constant clicking, faint but too audible for me), or B) use a completely separate microphone system and sync video and audio in post, or C) disable autofocus entirely. I'm wondering why a camcorder with internal noise *won't* allow an external microphone to be connected? To me this is a design flaw. If it allowed the use of an external microphone (to solve the noise issues by moving the microphone farther from the camcorder's autofocus mechanism), I'd probably keep the camcorder. Anyway, the zoom was fantastic and the video stabilizer worked really well (it's my first time using the stabilizer and I have to say I love it). If you just want to capture high-profile events or silent videos that you'll later add your own audio to in post-production, this camcorder might be for you. For my needs (quiet settings), this camcorder is not suitable.
