We have used them in the past (2008 Subaru Impreza OBS) and have been satisfied. We have also used other brands of filters including Subaru OEM filters. I felt the quality of the Fram air filters was on par with the OEM filters of the past, including the number of pleats. However, the one I received recently has significantly fewer wrinkles; More precisely only 14 folds. The image shows 22 or 23 pleats and this number is typical of comparable filters including the Fram pictured on this page. Update: I replaced the air filter on our 2008 Subaru OBS with a Purolator PureOne filter on 04/17/2015. It has the same reduced pleat count as the Fram CA 9997 filter. The Subaru (Denso) air filter that I removed after 30,000 miles also has the same reduced pleat count as the Fram (and Purolator PureOne); there was still life in it. So I'm upgrading this frame to 5 stars. I guess they've updated the design and construction, including the number of pleats across the board. Fram filters are comparable to Subaru and Purolator filters. I won't hesitate to use Fram next time.
