I can feed the wire but I'm not that stable anymore. This allows me to turn the dial precisely and feed the rod. It's large and fits perfectly in my gloved hand. The steel bar is fed normally. I have a pack of aluminum rods (3/32"") that bent slightly in transit and the feed wheel slips when the bend touches the unit. Well, not perfect, but otherwise it works very well. I would buy it again. if i lose this one.
