Review on πŸ”’ Baldwin Prestige Tobin Entry Lever with SmartKey in Satin Nickel: Enhanced Security and Style by Alex Pollard

Definitely worth paying a little extra!

I had never heard of Baldwin before going to my local Home Depot. They have been around for a while and traditionally make high quality door hardware. By high I mean a three to four digit upper limit. I believe you can even design custom handles if you'd like. What drew me to these levers over the old standard (and I wasn't aware of this until I examined Baldwin more closely) is the use of an "ease of release" latch, which requires only 28 degrees of movement to open the latch. Great if you are older and find it difficult to use standard levers. An additional note is the weight of these levers. You get serious equipment. I've replaced grips and levers in the past, but they all weigh next to nothing compared to these devices. The first device I bought had a mechanical problem. I strongly recommend, although it could be an accident, that you check the latch to make sure it goes in flush with the panel. Tip when installing the lever: When installing the inner half of the block, pay attention to the position of the lock. The first one I installed knocked the lock out but luckily there was no damage as I just had to insert and twist to fit the internal mechanism. I really like these levers. Not sure if Baldwin bought Kwikset, but Baldwin uses Kwikset's SmartKey to change the locks' keys. I plan to purchase Baldwin for all my future door hardware needs.
