I use tie down straps to keep our SUP boards from sliding off and keep them nice and secure on roof racks when travelling. I used the main brand of these things, KanuLocks, and while I liked them, the plastic cover on the locks kept breaking, and although the company was kind enough to send me new ones after it had happened too many times and then when I was rowing through the desert accidentally lost my key and having the hard experience of how easy it is to cut through, I thought maybe I'll try something else. Enter these types. Much cheaper, not so bulky, excellent lock with a real key, not the key for a small children's suitcase like KanuLocks, and 3 strands of metal wire instead of 2 - I'm really satisfied. I guess time will tell but we already did our first ride on them, used them to secure our boards to a tree so we didn't have to lug them out of the lake the next day, could tell the difference in feel not to believe. . For less money I feel like I got a better belt. They're a bit hard to figure out when you're in the woods and don't have internet access, but once I got the strap through the lock properly (it's not brain science, I'm just a little bit sometimes) everything went smoothly. Highly recommend as an alternative to the more expensive ones you will find. Whether they stop a determined or professional bolt cutter thief is debatable, but to protect your gear from adventurers and keep your car sealed while you speed to the shop, hotel or restaurant, or to campsites, or safely on the way down to the beach or lake to check surf or wind conditions it's great!
