Firstly I come from a technical background so my expectations may differ from those purchasing this. I bought the W31 to adopt as a router for my xFinity gigabit internet service. I have a Samsung S10+ with ax WiFi as well as an X570 motherboard and an AMD R7 3700X for my desktop, so both of my clients are fully 802.11ax compatible in this test. In terms of W31 functionality, the setup is very smooth and good. made with the application that gives me the biggest complaint and the reason for the bad rating. As a precaution, if you want a "set and forget" solution then this is great for you, as long as you're not expecting significant speed improvements over your existing 802.11ac network the app has it all for you. That's all. There is no website to access detailed settings. You have absolutely no access or ability to change WiFi channels or remove the combined 2.4 and 5 GHz channels. You also cannot disconnect the device from your network, you lose all control except creating a network name. In terms of performance, I experienced a significant drop in speed. My xFinity network is split into 2.4 and 5 GHz networks and I consistently get over 600 Mbps on my desktop WiFi. On a consolidated W31 network and with different adapter configurations, but never over 300Mbps in a 3 week period with the W31 as my only router. The moment I uninstalled the W31 and returned to my XB6 xFinity router, I was again consistently at 600Mbps or more. I have not tested this on an Ethernet network. For me, losing the ability to configure one of the critical elements of this router and losing the ability to directly control what devices are on my network in real time created a low score for it. I really think these manufacturers should allow for those who want that kind of granular control. But given the issues with losing Wi-Fi speed, I have no reason to use this router again.
