I bought this thermometer to measure the temperature of my oven because I thought the oven was defective. He has so many problems that I never understood whether the oven works or not. First of all, this thermometer comes with a 9V battery and a mini screwdriver to open the battery compartment. Here its advantages end. I wanted to measure the temperature in °F but the thermometer came in °C. I checked the manual and found I was given a manual for a different thermometer. In my box were buttons that were different than described in the instructions. Furthermore, while the manual contained sections in every imaginable language, the English section, even if intended for the right product, was grossly inadequate. It doesn't explain what the different modes actually do, just their names, and it didn't help me at all. Eventually I found that I had to set the thermometer to MAX mode (whatever that means) and then press the UP button to change the value to °F. Finally! I could use that thing. Without a pit of boiling water handy, I measured the temperature of an ice cube and found it to be either 8°F or 11°F, which isn't very good for accuracy, but is still within the instrument's margin of error. as described here. This is where it gets interesting. My daughter took my forehead temperature and the thermometer read 85°F which is odd because I live and breathe and my medical infrared thermometer showed my temperature was 97°F. So not in this area. After that I went a bit crazy, measuring room temperature objects and getting readings that differed by 20°F. I even figured out how to change the value of e to account for differences in reflectance, but to no avail. He was still wrong more than right, and he was wrong by as much as 25%. I come back.
