The main downside mentioned in many reviews is that the clip for holding the tom tom gps itself is small. If you want to use it on the dashboard, it should stick. But it doesn't stick very well when you attach it to the windshield. On rough roads, the locking system can easily detach from the back of the tom tom GPS. The original mount for the Tomtom GPS navigator holds much better. I ended up just using the ball portion of the mount itself and attaching a thin rubber to it for use with the original mount (the original ball mount rubber fell apart after 10 years). If you also want to adjust the mount, be it on the dash or windshield, you will need to hold the actual mount at the back while adjusting, as even a slight push will damage it. The suction cup is great, but the clip doesn't fit the XL GPS tomtom.
