Based on a 65mm or 2.5" lens with a non-adjustable factory focus setting, it is designed primarily for reading small print rather than as a magnifying glass to be used close to the eye . Best focusing is achieved when the base of the loupe is pointed toward the object being examined and the eye is about 10 inches or so higher than the top lens, so it's used more like a magnifying glass than a loupe. Attempting to use the eye close to the lens will result in objects being out of focus, and focus can only be adjusted by lifting the magnifying glass away from the object being examined. The backlight works well and I expect the three AAA batteries will last a long time due to the higher capacity compared to coin cell batteries. Decent optical quality with minimal distortion when used as directed. If you want a similar loupe with relatively low power and a large loupe for use near the eye, get the Carson LumiLoupe Plus 6x Power Focusable Stand Loupe Loupe (LO-06).
