Review on 🥦 Humble House SAUERKROCK Fermentation Crock with Glazed Weights and Cabbage Tamper - 2 Liter (0.5 Gallon) German-Style Water Sealed Jar in Traditional Brown for Fermenting Sauerkraut, Kimchi, and Pickles by Bre Marie

Nice pot, non-functional weights

My pot arrived just in time to collect my cabbage. I unpacked it and am very happy with the size and the design. Ceramic weights left a lot to be desired. The glaze doesn't cover the inner half. One has a large gap in the corner which is a great spot for unwanted germs. And the weight had unfinished ceramic stuck to the unglazed areas. I have extra weight , which I can use, so luckily I'm not in the creek, but if you can make it in time I'd recommend giving yourself some slack for the time of swap if you expect to be using the loads that are included.**Update ** Tossing up a star here Humble House contacted us after my initial review and after looking closely at the weights I found h artisanal weights which were entirely glazed, and made the wrong assumption that they would also be entirely glazed. The inner half should be left untreated so they dry better. It's well and good, puts my mind at ease a little. They sent a replacement weight for the broken one. The replacement came with unfinished plaster, just like the first two. Not a huge deal breaker by any means as it's easy to sand, but I still think it can be checked and done when the product is finalized before shipping. I found the weight was not large enough for my first serving of cabbage in a jar. The enzyme continued to rise above the brine. I added some more weight and everything was fine. I'm on my second batch of turnip cabbage now and it's holding up well under brine. I got a lot more brine this time thanks to the beets, and the humidity/temp didn't skyrocket - so maybe it was just an unexpected buildup of gas overcoming the weight in the first batch. I am very happy with this pot. Where others have complained of water leakage, I have not had this problem. When I first tested it to make sure I was filling the slide properly I found that I was over filling it and also that I shouldn't fill the slide and then put the lid on. When I started putting the lid on first and then just filling the feeder until it covered the "vent" on the lid, everything was fine and the water stayed in place. Maybe I'll order a second pot someday!
