EXCELLENT OPTICS! / TERRIBLE LIGHTING!

This AmScope stereo microscope, like all their stereo microscopes, has one major disadvantage. The LED light source supplied with the microscope is not suitable for every magnification. Even at 20 power, the lowest level, it's not enough. At 40 hp, that's a very bad joke. The problem is not the type of lighting used. The LED lighting is excellent. The problem is that this particular stereo microscope only has three LED lights at the top. There should be at least ten, preferably a dozen. I bought this microscope because the picture was identical to an AmScope stereo microscope I had a few years ago that was stolen from my house along with many other items while I was away. city for a few weeks. However, I did not receive the microscope shown, but a new, "improved" version. In my opinion, the lighting on the previous model I had was definitely better than this one. As for the lighting from below, I haven't had time to use and test it, so I can't judge its pros or cons. from zero to full intensity. However, since the light is weak even at full intensity at minimum power, this feature is rather useless. When the magnification power of a microscope is increased, two things always happen: the field of view gets smaller and the image gets darker. The fact that the image is getting weaker is not a defect of the microscope, but simply a law of optics. However, there is a way to overcome this phenomenon to some extent, and that is by providing a powerful light source sufficient to partially compensate for the inevitable loss of light intensity as magnification is increased. around three LED bulbs that shine from above. There is a translucent piece of plastic at the bottom of this box, which is probably intended to provide a bit of subdued and even lighting. However, this also has the effect of dimming the light source. The microscope would definitely work better without them. Light rings with 60 or 144 LED lamps are available to attach to the stereo microscope turret, but not in this model. The reason for this is that there is a small metal box embedded around the three LED bulbs. This drawer has enough space for at least eight or ten LED lights, but it's only three. If it weren't for this metal box, a ring light could be mounted on top of the tower and then sufficient illumination at various magnification levels would likely be available. or even 120 times. But without adequate lighting, higher magnification is completely useless. However, I simply turned off the light on the microscope completely and turned on a very bright, high-intensity LED flashlight to illuminate what I was looking at, and then the image was crisp and clear. So there are ways around the pathetic AmScope stereomicroscope illumination system. If you want to go to the trouble of disassembling the metal box around the three LED lamps, you can attach the ring light to the microscope turret. But with the installed box this is not possible. Another feature of this microscope model that made a difference for me was that you were stuck with 10x eyepieces that offer 20x and 40x magnification. It is impossible to upgrade this particular stereo microscope with other eyepieces that would allow higher magnification. The model I stole earlier did not have this limitation. It would be possible to use more powerful eyepieces with it. The construction of this stereo microscope is quite solid. It is mostly made of metal. Various adjustments such as focus, etc. are smooth and work very well. I would have given this microscope a good overview if it weren't for the extremely inadequate lighting system. Unfortunately I had to send it back to Revane. I would advise anyone looking for a good stereo microscope to stay away from AmScope products until they get smart and do something about their poor lighting system. Remember that AmScope stereo microscopes are identical to many other brands as they are all made by the same manufacturer in China. Almost all microscopes, even very high-quality ones, are made in China these days.
