This camera module is a long-awaited update to the standard Raspberry Pi Camera v2. After replacing the old module, I expected some necessary configuration and settings, but the camera worked right away. The additional autofocus capabilities required some adjustments, but the functionality without additional adjustments was the same as the standard camera module. The autofocus demo example used a simple Python script, but used OpenCV and some pretty intensive Sobel calculations to determine the best focal length. Depending on your application, this auto focus feature may be overly complex. All in all, the replacement camera module does its job of allowing a standard Raspberry Pi camera to autofocus.
