First of all I would like to say that these straws are a great alternative to "single use" plastic and even paper straws. They're all dishwasher safe, although the metal straws were narrow enough to fit in the cutlery tray, so I put a little mesh in the bottom of the tray to prevent this. They are accompanied by two brushes in the form of bottle brushes, so manual cleaning is not difficult. As for silicone straws, I underestimated and didn't realize that the diameter was huge. The widest straws I've ever seen! I love that they are semi-flexible and thought they would be perfect for my two preschool grandchildren. However, knowing with what delight they will be at grabbing at those fun, brightly colored straws, I think I'll refrain from doing so for now - I can imagine lots of gulping and subsequent gagging. They would probably be ideal for adult porridge and ice cream shakes and also have slanted cuts at the bottom to make it easier to move around the straw. Overall, I'm glad I have them and will continue to look for other ways to help me make my life greener.
