Works but expensive for learning and behavioral aids

Suitable to complement an existing UG Petsafe system. We adopted a pit bull puppy and he is now approaching an age where we can train him for the UG fence we have which my other dog is already used to. I kept the flags from the main system I bought and walked around the yard with the new collar marking the ground. I spent a couple of weeks keeping her on a leash while taking her for walks every time she needed to go outside and letting her try to get closer until the collar beeped to alert her, at which point I took the Leash loosened and gave her a word of disown, letting her know I don't want her to move on. She never went into shock when I took her for a walk, but after a few weeks I decided to let go of her leash and walk with her, but she made a few attempts to cross the line, which I've never seen a 180 in I have a dog and I walk to the front door just as quickly as she does. :/ Anyway, she got the hint now and didn't try again. While this collar works, it is quite bulky. I bought these mainly because I was tired of buying proprietary batteries that are just a bunch of CR2032 batteries in a row that don't last that long. Sure, I can get an adapter for a smaller collar and use my own CR2032, but the thing is, they could just offer a cap with an o-ring where I could just put a store-bought battery. (Especially since I have CR2032 and 9v rechargeable ones.) That's why I liked this one. My biggest problem with them is the system I bought and it works really well. I didn't pay much more for the whole system including block, 1 collar, wire etc. This collar is $70 while my whole orig system less than 2 years old is only $129. If you do the math, $49 seems like the perfect price for 1 collar. In general I am satisfied. I don't plan on getting any more dogs so as long as it works I don't have to worry about the cost anymore, it's solved. Pet products are generally a bit overpriced for even the most mundane of items.

Pros
  • Great for a small home
Cons
  • Questionable purchase for seniors
