Doesn't duplicate LAN capability

I bought this with the intention of connecting it to my modem, with a cable going to my wireless router to a port and a LAN cable going to my kids XBOX. Unfortunately, they don't work at the same time. The left port must be empty for the right port to work and vice versa.

Pros

Easily convert an RJ45 connection into two RJ45 cables with this LAN splitter cable.
