I made two holes in the roof of my RV by breaking through the rubber sheet and digging into the plywood. One was about 8 feet long and the other about 6 feet. I also had holes along the rounded edge of the roof. Yes, bad news. Also, I did it on my very first trip with a brand new RV. I considered dousing it with gas, setting it on fire, collecting the insurance money and returning to the campsite, but instead I did a lot of research and decided to try Eternabond WebSeal to fix it. Spoiler: It was a very good decision. The edges of the torn roof were stretched and puckered, so I trimmed the rubber around the tear until it lay flat, leaving gaping holes 1 to 2 inches wide and 6 to 8 feet long. in the rubber. I cleaned the rubber around the holes with borax, some water and a brush according to the manufacturer's instructions - it was perfectly white again! Then I cleaned the plywood chips for good stickiness. I cut off 2 to 3 foot lengths of WebSeal and followed the directions to apply using a 4 inch Speedball Deluxe hard rubber nozzle. Boy oh boy that thing sticks. I tried to clear a corner just to see if I could; this is not possible without destroying WebSeal. I covered the holes and then doubled them up, covering the WebSeal with two more pieces of WebSeal, each half overlapping making about 6 full inches of contact with the roof. I also wrapped the WebSeal around the rounded edge of the roof in several places; it fits perfectly and works great. As this product has a somewhat absorbent outer layer I ended up using Heng 461284 - 1 Gallon Rubber Coated Smooth Paint Roller and applied 3 coats of roofing gum over the course of 3 days. We've had some crazy downpours and I've driven a lot of freeway miles since I did this. I haven't had any leaks and everything looks the same as the day I finished the job. I cut a few 4x6 inch pieces out of it and put them in a zippered bag and now keep them in my tool box in case I do something stupid again. All in all I am very satisfied with this product. Let's see how long that lasts. One note: if you cover EternaBond patch tape with rubber roofing, that's up to you. I spoke to the helpful folks at EternaBond (great customer service!) before purchasing this and they said I didn't find their patch tape with a slick paint coating (EternaBond Roof Seal) on the outside to wrap rubber very well eventually the rubber coating will separate from the slippery coating of the belt. I'm no expert, but I don't think Roof Seal would be as good for getting over a rounded roof edge because it's a bit stiffer (their customer service department didn't tell me that; I'm just guessing).
