This rating is for the 16x25x1 version of the filters which have been rated MERV 8. This is a good filter set at a great price. They provide more than enough filtration capacity to keep your air conditioner and/or furnace running at peak efficiency. They came with 6 filters sealed in plastic and the filters were in good condition. I know that many people buy more expensive, better rated furnace filters because they believe they provide better air quality. This is not always the case as the filter in your air conditioner/furnace is not enough to really filter the air in your home. The "better" filters also have a trade-off that most people don't think about: they make it harder for your air conditioner/stove to actually work and reduce airflow. The best course of action would be to buy cheaper, lower rated furnace filters and add standalone air purifiers in the rooms where you spend most of your time. Overall, this is a quality filter that appears to be correctly rated at MERV 8. This is more than enough for just about any air conditioning/heating system in the home.
