I have bought other less expensive ball heads which have gotten good marks but have been very disappointed. After a full day of shooting with the last film I bought, I was so disappointed in the amount of slack that I decided I had to grow up or go home. I realized that I would have to spend a significant amount of money to go from a toy to a tool. The reviews for the k40-x were good, so I decided to invest. After a full day of shooting, I only realized I was using a new ball head when Amazon sent me a k40 x review reminder. I found the ball head worked so well I literally forgot I was using it. That's exactly what you want from the gear, so it's out of the way and you can focus on the task at hand. It fits all of my Arca-Swiss records from various sources and tightens every time with no noticeable sagging. It's probably all down to the physics of a larger head with more surface area and the ability to make contact with the turnbuckle, but it works and still works very well. Great purchase and I'm glad I really invested in a quality product. Make no mistake when they say that with support systems like ball heads and tripods, you get what you pay for. It's easy to confuse the pricing of quality heads like this, but ask yourself: do you want to battle your ball head in the rapidly fading evening light, or capture the best photos of your life?
