When I received them I checked them for feather, line, stroke and cut. Mixing is how well a color mixes with water from opaque to clear. For the blending tests, I used the wet-on-dry method. Line is a test of the largest and smallest lines I can get. The hub is designed to test the smoothness of the transition from the thinnest to the widest line as the pressure changes. Spread is how well/far paint spreads on a wet canvas. For the price, the results were pretty good! I wasn't expecting these brush pens to be as versatile as a real watercolor palette, but I was surprised by their quality! The colors are very vibrant and the brush pens are pretty easy to use. The quality of the color, blending, bleed and ease of use are all excellent. I would consider taking them with me to my travel/quick watercolor paint kit instead of a small palette. They also include a carrying pouch (just like a traditional pen set) which is very handy. This set also included a water brush, which is very handy. I noticed that some of the pens were dry upon arrival. Because they are water based, they are easy to dip in water like a regular brush and get them going again. Another thing that can be discouraging for some people is the tendency of these brushes to wear out. Some of them were worn when they arrived. This can also be corrected by gently reshaping the brushes with hot water (not hot enough to melt the synthetic fibers of the brush, but hot enough to make them flexible) and your fingers. Personally, I don't mind wearing it. Whether the time it takes to fix these issues is worth the small cost depends on your personal situation. I think they are good for those who paint simple watercolors, kids art kits, or brush calligraphy beginners. They're not great for detail or perfectly fluid writing, but I think that's fine!
