I recently purchased this with Revain Prime and I suspect red is not a very popular color for this thermometer as it is the only color available for this offering. After becoming the owner and frequent user of a smaller, less featured Lavatools spear, I jumped at the deal because color is trivial and I'm the form follows function type. If you grill often and don't use any other type of thermometer, just buy one. If you work in a restaurant and can't decide between this and thermal foam, BUY IT! As a Thermal Pen and Pro Javelin owner I can say this is the best buy and I don't want to spend money on a Thermal Pen. The Javelin Pro Duo is a must-have for anyone who works in a restaurant or frequently cooks in the dark. My favorite feature is the 2-inch backlit anti-fog display, which automatically changes orientation for easier reading no matter how you insert the probe. The display backlight can be activated by simply shaking the thermometer, which is very handy when carrying oven mitts. The thermometer also has a hold button that allows you to place the thermometer in hard-to-reach places and get the accurate temperature without sticking your face in the grill or oven. The motion-activated auto shut-off is great for saving battery when you're in a hurry and drop the thermometer to get food, which I did more than I care to admit. Finally, the thermometer is waterproof, which I "tested" after my girlfriend put it in a water-filled sink and it still works as well as it did when I bought it. A workhorse that will accompany you for a lifetime. If you don't need the features of the Javelin Pro Duo, the Javelin is great for a lower price, but if you want a professional-grade thermometer, spend the money and buy it because you won't be disappointed.
