My old iMac worked great until it broke. Fiction. The hard drive has failed. You are prone to it. I swapped the HDD for a new SSD. However, what I didn't realize was that if you were replacing a mechanical hard drive that didn't have a built-in temperature sensor connector (other hard drives I've had didn't have this), the fans would run at full speed. They are loud and I didn't want to be carried. With this thermal sensor I was able to attach the actual sensor to the SSD and connect it to the included SATA connector. Be careful when disassembling and reconnecting this connector. I recommend checking out the iFixit website to see some suggestions for the model you're using it on.
